Day 2 started out with Bobcat, Queen Bee, Trudy, Coco and Honey Badger getting a workout in at Orange Theory Condado. Details gleaned from their conversations afterwards was that it was much harder than Edwardsville OTF but further probing lead to the admission that was mainly due to the lack of fans on the treadmills. It was also mostly in Spanish.
After OTF everyone enjoyed smoothies at Crush Juice Bar.
While there, we also enjoyed updates from the Schmidts’ on how their travel adventure was going. Let’s just say they earn the nickname of “The Schmidt Show” and a new nickname for Shady Keith was also spawned, “Dickosaurus”
Next we headed to Condado Beach for some time in the sun and Ocean. Queen B and Coco even got in. They were immediately hit in the face with a wave but stuck it out for a few minutes before retreating back to the beach and their drinks.
Xolo Tacos was the lunch spot. The kitten that lives there was the highlight. Food was good, service was slow. So slow that the kids left before the vegan dishes were served. Bobby Newport went on a beer run and made his first legal liquor store purchase.
After cleaning up, Bobcat and Bobby Newport hopped on Bird scooters and met the Wilsons and then we all took scooters on the bike paths along the Ocean to Castillo San Felipe del Morro.
After Castillo San Felipe del Morro we walked to Cerveceria del Callejon where Chief and Bobby Newport enjoyed a Puerto Rican microbrew in a hole in the wall bar for their first legal beer.
Queen Bee and Trudy skipped the Spanish fort which was commissioned by King Charles I of Spain in 1539 and headed to another place of almost as much cultural significance, Zara at the Mall of San Juan.
Dinner was at Cayo Blanco where the paella got good reviews and mofongo was tried.
Shady Keith, Kitty, Cipher, and Toots finally arrived after some car pick up and driving complications where they were greeted in their hotel lobby by the rest of the Unhinged Spring Breakers.
After entertaining ourselves watching Kitty, Cipher and Toots get lost in the hotel while Shady K parked the car, we all headed over to the Marriott for drinks.
Bobby Newport and Chief hit the blackjack table with Bobcat joining them a little later. Chief cashed out his winnings and we ended the night with Bobby Newport and Bobcat still at the table but both up in chips at the time.
When all was said and done, everyone had made good gains on the leaderboard but Honey Badger was holding on to a small lead going into Day 3. We expect the competition to really heat up now that the whole crew is in Puerto Rico and we move from separate hotels to our Airbnb house in the rainforest.
